(304659) KIA Tigers at (304660) Doosan Bears
Game: (304659) KIA Tigers at (304660) Doosan Bears
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 5:30 AM EDT
Play Rating: E%
Play: Doosan Bears -155
Pinnacle has this at 155 but it will probably go to 170 or so by the end of the day. Take it. Doosan has the SP, bullpen and lineup advantages here. Kia has the worst lineup and worst bullpen in the league. Dan Mengden is their SP which is why you can get a decent number on this but Mengden has struggled badly lately and his reputation is better than his results. Miranda on the other hand has been stellar and his numbers are just as good as advertised. His K:BB rate is immaculate and his record vs Kia is great. Take Doosan on the money line.

(304657) NC Dinos at (304658) SSG Landers
Game: (304657) NC Dinos at (304658) SSG Landers
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 5:30 AM EDT
Play Rating: D%
Play: 1H NC Dinos -148
Drew Rucinski has been a little shaky lately but SSG's SP Choi Min Jun is terrible. He ranks 80 out of 93 SPs with a 6.22 career ERA and a 6:6 K:BB ratio. The #1 lineup in Japan should be woken from their slump facing this stiff. Take the defending champs on the 1st 5 money line. -148 at Pinnacle might be gone soon but anything -170 or better is good for a money line 1st 5 play.

(304137) Orix Buffaloes at (304138) Nippon Ham Fighters
Game: (304137) Orix Buffaloes at (304138) Nippon Ham Fighters
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 12:00 AM EDT
Play Rating: B%
Play: 1H Nippon Ham Fighters Total Over 1.5 (+100)
The Fighters are the best hitting team this last week and they face a pitcher in Yamazaki who has a 6+ ERA against them in 2 starts. My numbers have this total at 2.3 so make a small 2% play on Nippon Ham getting 2 runs in the first five innings.

Hiroshima Carp at Yokohama BatStars
Game: Hiroshima Carp at Yokohama BatStars
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 4:45 AM EDT
Play Rating: C%
Play: Hiroshima Carp Total Over 3.5 (-110)
My number have Hiroshima scoring 4.2 in this one which is worth a 3% play. Yokohama SP Hamaguchi is bad, and he is backed by an even worst bullpen. The Carp have been hitting well lately and this is a hitter's park. They also have 9 at bats. Take the Carp Over 3.5 for anything -130 or better.

(304141) Seibu Lions at (304142) Chiba Lotte Marines
Game: (304141) Seibu Lions at (304142) Chiba Lotte Marines
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 4:45 AM EDT
Play Rating: D%
Play: 1H Seibu Lions Total Over 1.5 (-120)
Pinnacle has this at 120 now but it could drop to -140 or so. That's ok play it. The Lions are hitting great right now and Mima can not get his mechanics right. He has allowed 28 RUNS in his last 4 starts. The Lions hot him for a 3.80 ERA and 1.5 is a low hurdle to clear for a 1st 5.

(304147) Chunichi Dragons at (304148) Hanshin Tigers
Game: (304147) Chunichi Dragons at (304148) Hanshin Tigers
Date/Time: Aug 31 2021 5:00 AM EDT
Play Rating: C%
Play: 1H Hanshin Tigers -150
Hanshin SP Aoyagi has been great this season and especially great vs Chinichi. The Dragons are the worst hitting team in the league and should be held under 1 in the 1st 5 here. The Tigers are the best 1st 5 hitting team and certainly should be able to get a run in the 1st 5 off of Fukutani. Take Hanshin on the 1st 5 money line. Pinnacle is offering it at 150 but anything 170 or better is good.

CHI. CUBS @ MINNESOTA | 08/31 | 8:10 PM EDT
MINNESOTA -140
ANALYSIS: I haven't faded my Cubs for a while! Pitcher Zach Davies has not been good this month, going 0-3 with a 7.94 ERA. Chicago is 1-8 in its past nine vs. the American League and 1-8 in its past nine series openers. The Twins actually will finish August with a winning record, their first winning month of the year. They are 6-1 in their past seven at home vs. right-handers. I expect this ML to rise to around -160ish by the morning.

N.Y. YANKEES @ L.A. ANGELS | 08/31 | 9:38 PM EDT
N.Y. YANKEES -121
ANALYSIS: The Angels just announced that Shohei Ohtani will not pitch Tuesday night (he will be able to DH through a minor injury), so this moneyline is clearly going to rise overnight with Jaime Barria (2-2, 5.56) taking his place. It's Jameson Taillon for the Yanks. He is 7-0 with a 3.05 ERA in his last 13 starts, allowing three earned or fewer in 11 of those.

MLB Sharp Action

6:40 p.m. ET: St. Louis Cardinals (67-63) at Cincinnati Reds (71-62)

Both of these NL Central rivals are battling for Wild Card spots. The Reds currently occupy the second Wild Card spot but the Cardinals are on their heels, just 2.5-games back. St. Louis took last night's series opener 3-1, cashing as big + 185 road dogs. The Cardinals are now 3-1 over their last four games while the Reds have dropped three straight. In tonight's rematch, St. Louis hands the ball to righty Miles Mikolas (0-1, 2.70 ERA) and Cincinnati counters with veteran righty Sonny Gray (6-6, 3.91 ERA). This line opened with the Reds listed as a moderate -140 home favorite and the Cardinals a + 130 road dog. The public is split down the middle and doesn't know who to take. But pros seem to be buying low on the Reds, steaming Cincinnati up from -140 to -150. Home favorites receiving 10-cents of steam or more are 343-216 (61.4%) this season. The Reds are 43-30 as a favorite. The Cardinals are 26-35 as a dog. Cincinnati will lean on their bats in this one. The Reds are hitting .250, which ranks 6th-best in MLB. The Cardinals are hitting .239, which ranks 18th. Cincinnati is 8-6 against St. Louis this season. We could also be looking at a lower scoring game. The total is 9 with the under juiced to -120, signaling a possible fall to 8.5. The forecast calls for low 70s with wind blowing in at 5 MPH. Cory Blaser, the home plate ump, is roughly 54% to the under.

8:10 p.m. ET: Chicago Cubs (57-75) at Minnesota Twins (58-73)

This Interleague showdown features a pair of teams who are well out of playoff contention. In tonight's series opener, Chicago hands the ball to righty Zach Davies (6-10, 5.00 ERA) and Minnesota sends out fellow righty John Gant (0-2, 6.75 ERA). This line opened with the Twins listed as a -140 home favorite and the Cubs a + 130 road dog. The public sees two bad teams and isn't very interested in getting down on this game. But pros see an edge with the home favorite Twins, steaming Minnesota up from -140 to -160. Non-division home favorites are 423-265 (61.5%) this season. If they're in the "sweet spot" of -150 to -175 they improve to 91-53 (63.2%). Minnesota is 44-43 against righties. Chicago is 39-55 against righties. The Twins are hitting .242, which ranks 13th in MLB. The Cubs are hitting .231, which ranks 28th. Chicago is just 24-43 on the road. Wiseguys are leaning toward a higher scoring game as the total is 9.5 with the over juiced to -115. Minnesota is 74-49 to the over, one of the best over teams in MLB.

8:10 p.m. ET: Pittsburgh Pirates (48-83) at Chicago White Sox (76-56)

This Interleague matchup is as lopsided as it gets. The Pirates sit in last place in NL Central and own the 4th-worst record in MLB. Meanwhile, the White Sox lead the AL Central by double-digit games and are poised for a deep postseason run. In tonight's series opener, Pittsburgh taps righty Bryse Wilson (2-5, 4.35 ERA) and Chicago counters with fellow righty Lucas Giolito (9-9, 3.68 ERA). This line opened with the White Sox listed as a hefty -250 home favorite and the Pirates a + 225 road dog. Pros aren't outsmarting themselves on this one. Despite the expensive price, they're backing the far superior team at home, steaming Chicago up from -250 to -300. Big home favorites -200 or more are 165-64 (72.1%) this season. Interleague favorites -200 or more are 20-8 (71%). Chicago is 64-35 as a favorite, including 39-21 (65%) as home favorites. Pittsburgh is 42-79 as a dog. The White Sox are 54-41 against righties. The Pirates are just 37-53 against righties.
